I Ride The Bus Because It's F***in Awesome!

Usually when I get on the bus at 4:20 am it's close to empty. There is the standard two or three bums sleeping and that's about it. When I got on today there was 14 bums sleeping, a guy drinking malt liquor form a paper bag, and standing room only. Needless to say I wasn't happy, especially since I have to stand up for about an hour. When I got to my transfer point at Fairfax & Washington I noticed the bus stop sign had a sticker that said "Fucking Awesome". This is exactly the opposite of my opinion of the MTA. I have to admit though, that this made me smile for a moment.

More random pictures taken this morning as I walked around Hollywood and Los Feliz

I found a couple decent books as I was walking down Franklin today. One was an old collection of Henry David Thoreau that I had been wanting to read for some time. Thoreau was a famous traveler whom I read about recently in Rolf Potts' book Vagabonding. The book has been brought here from another country which is quite fitting, and asks for it to be returned to Jamaica. Hopefully I can return it to it's rightful owner, or their grand child, some day.

LOST: Marbles - All of them (Seen in Los Feliz)

I saw this on my way home from 7-Eleven last night and thought it was kind of funny. I'm really not sure what this is for, maybe just a sign saying someone is crazy, or a band I've never heard of.

Santa Monica

I went to Santa Monica yesterday to meet up with what I thought was going to be a few Iowa fans for the game. It turns out the bar was so packed with Iowans that I couldn't even get a place to stand and left early. I kind of forgot I had a camera most of the time so I didn't really snap any good pictures. There was an amazing guitar playing duo in the Promenade that I tried to capture on video but my camera is not very good for that and people kept getting in the way. I ended up walking around for about 5 or 6 hours, talking with random people, staring at the ocean, listening to street performers, and watching the a schizophrenic guy talking to someone next to him as if he was on a talk show for a few minutes.

If anyone is ever looking to watch Iowa Football in Los Angeles check out Barney's Beanery on the Santa Monica Promenade.

Why so serious?

I got off the train at Hollywood Blvd and Highland and took walking towards Sunset, or so I thought. After a few blocks I suddenly saw the Hollywood Sign above me and realized I must have got my directions turned around coming up the stairs from the Metro Rail. As I turned around and headed back I was passed by Superman and Wonder Woman apparently on their way to lunch. Right after that a pretty convincing looking Joker came walking up. I had heard people talking about him on Twitter so I decided to snap a pic. It came out really bad though.

Welcome to the city of lost angels

I recently packed up my bags and hitch hiked from Iowa to Los Angeles. I have lived here for about a week now and have been doing a lot of exploring on foot. I always carry a camera, though a cheap one, and am nearly always ready to snap something interesting I see or switch to video mode and capture the excitement. It's not always something amazing but it's something quirky in a way Los Angeles can only do.

I will randomly post pics, vids, thoughts, rants, etc that take place in Los Angeles here on the Lost Angeles Posterous
